Various festivals take place around Paros all along the year and especial during the summer season. Visiting them and taste the authentic way of local’s festivities.

Paros Park

The environmental and cultural park of Paros is founded in 2009 with a goal to protect the peninsula of Ai Yannis Detis, and it consist of 80 hectares. It’s a theme park which promotes artists, organizes activities and events to emphasize in the cultural life of the island and in volunteering actions, in the environmental awareness of the citizens and the visitors. There is an annually festival starting from July until September. In this period various events and activities take place. The park offers the following facilities: An open-air cinema, a small semi-covered exhibition hall, an amphitheater of 700 seats, both well-organized and non-organized beaches, various trekking trails, and a parking area. Kleidonas festival

From the 21st to the 23th of June the Kleidonas custom is relived. It takes place in various villages around Paros (Naousa, Alyki, Lefkes, Prodromos, Marpissa), even though the most impressive and famous is in Alyki’s village. Fires, music, food and drinks for free are the main characteristics of this festival. The most impressive part of this festive, after the burning of the Mayday wreaths, is the belief that by jumping over the fire the evil spirits turn away.

Festival of Revithada in Prodromos

It is the celebration of Revithada! Revithada is a traditional recipe of Paros made by chickpeas. The Parians have been grown chickpeas from the ancient years and so the citizens decided to celebrate their tradition delicacy by showing the visitors how to make them. It’s a two-days festival and take place at the end of July.  A photography exhibition, a demonstration of how to make the tsoukali (the ceramic pot where the chickpeas are cooked), the preparation of the chickpeas, the baking in the oldest wooden oven, the tasting, the musicians who play only with traditional instruments like Tsabouna, made this festival more than successful.

Celebration of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

One of the biggest celebrations in Greece, equally important to Christmas and Easter. It is the celebration of Virgin Mary whose taken up to heaven by God and so she reunited with her son. It takes place in the church of Panagia Ekatotapiliani starting from the 13th to 15th of August. On the 15th is the day not to be missed since the port of Paroikia fills up with wooden boats that throw fireworks all around, traditional musicians etc.

Pirate Festival

Paros island had been endured attacks from pirates for many years. In 1537 the bloodthirsty Barbarossa pirate invade Naousa and tried to stole the women of the village. After a long battle the locals took them back. This is what is displayed in this impressive recreational event. Visitors may enjoy the traditional sounds Paros along with a traditional dancing. It takes place on the 23th of August at the port of Naousa.

Routes in Marpissa

A festival that emphasizes tradition through a modern touch. Three days full of life penetrating various aspects of life in Marpissa village and in Paros. Music, dance, games, workshops, documentaries, narrations, environmental actions, lectures are some of the activities take place all around of the village. The key element that makes this festival so special is that the interaction between the hosts and visitors is one of the most important goals. It takes place at the end of August.

Festival of Karavolas in Lefkes

It is the biggest and busier festival of Lefkes village. It takes place annually on the first Saturday after the 15th of August. Karavolas means the large snail which is one of local’s favorite delicacy, and this is why they made this a festival, to celebrate their love for this. The festival is surrounding by music, food and drinks and usually it last until early in the morning.
